Requiem for Internet Explorer: Microsoft Announces Retirement

After more than 25 years in the market, Internet Explorer will pass away. Microsoft has already announced the definitive withdrawal of the browser.

The desktop application will no longer be compatible with certain versions of Windows 10 as of June 15, 2022, and the tech giant will no longer support it.

It's the end of an era. For many years Internet Explorer was the benchmark program for accessing Internet content, but its decline has been gradual and fewer and fewer users connect through it. Microsoft does not renounce, however, having its own browser.

"The future of Internet Explorer in Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge", says the company in the statement announcing the final goodbye of the tool. The one that begins is the »next stage« of a journey undertaken long ago by the firm created by the now billionaire Bill Gates.

"Microsoft Edge is not only a faster, safer and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it can also address a key concern: compatibility with older and legacy websites and applications," he details.

In this way, true fans of the retiring program can access "IE mode" through Edge, which allows ActiveX controls and support for pages that are still based on Internet Explorer standards.
